Mon General in Top 5 Percent Nationally for Patient Safety

Mon General has been ranked among the top five percent of all hospitals in the United States for patient safety by HealthGrades, Inc., the leading independent healthcare ratings organization.

HealthGrades presented Mon General with the 2009 HealthGrades Patient Safety Excellence Award^TM during a ceremony at the hospital on Thursday, Aug. 27. This is the fourth consecutive year that Mon General has been in the top five percent for patient safety and has received the award (2006-2009).

Only 242 hospitals in the nation received the 2009 HealthGrades Patient Safety Excellence Award^TM. Mon General is the only hospital in West Virginia to receive the award four years in a row, and was one of only two hospitals in the state to receive the 2009 award, the other being Bluefield Regional Medical Center. Only 80 hospitals in the nation have received the award four times in a row.

"At Mon General, safety is our number one service standard," said Mon Health System President/CEO Dave Robertson. "We are dedicated to providing a safe environment for our patients, visitors, and staff.

 "To receive this award four years in a row is a testament to the importance our highly skilled and experienced physicians, nurses, and staff place on patient safety," Robertson said. "We strive to take every step possible to ensure that our patients receive the best health care and that no medical errors occur.

"The HealthGrades patient safety study validates that where people choose to receive health care services makes a big difference in the quality of care they receive," Robertson said. "We are pleased that our efforts are being recognized by the health care industry and community."

HealthGrades developed the patient safety award to give patients more information about choosing a hospital.
